Jed Steer has an uncertain future at Aston Villa, having struggled for playing time while falling further down the pecking order under Steven Gerrard. The 29-year-old was playing a supporting role to Emiliano Martinez early this season but is now third-choice following the arrival of Robin Olsen. Steer, whose contract at Villa is up […]
Aston Villa aren’t short of deep-lying midfielders with Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson, but they do need a more talented player that will sit in front of the back four and provide protection. Nakamba is currently sidelined with an injury, Sanson doesn’t hold down a starting place and Luiz has operated in the […]
Aston Villa loaned out Cameron Archer to Preston North End in January so he could get regular playing time at a competitive level and the 20-year-old is having a fantastic time at Deepdale. Archer has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Preston, scoring six goals. The England U20 international has featured in every Championship […]
Douglas Luiz has an uncertain future at Aston Villa as he’s struggled for consistency this season and is out of contract in little over 12 months. The 23-year-old remains a regular under Steven Gerrard but hasn’t been at his best in a makeshift role and may be replaced when the summer transfer window opens. Gerrard […]
Aston Villa aren’t short of centre-backs with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause, but Steven Gerrard may need to dip into the transfer market this summer as Hause has an uncertain future. Aston Villa are 11th in the Premier League on points (36), 9th in the league for goals scored and 14th in the league for possession, so they desperately need a creative influence who keeps the ball well. It’s why Philippe Coutinho was brought in during the winter transfer window and it’s why Villa would love […]
Aston Villa have a conveyor belt of young talented players at their disposal and Steven Gerrard hasn’t been shy about giving them first-team exposure. He’s given Premier League playing time to 18-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka and 18-year-old Tim Iroegbunam this season while naming nine teenagers in various matchday squads, so there’s definitely a pathway to senior […]
Aston Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday and Leon Bailey was one of many players who underperformed. The 24-year-old was given his first Premier League start of 2022, but Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave Bailey a player rating of 3/10 and Matt Maher of the Express and Star gave him […]
Cameron Archer looks to have a bright future at Aston Villa, but he wasn’t getting into the first-team ahead of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings this season, so he was loaned out in January. Keinan Davis fell down the pecking order at Aston Villa and was deemed surplus to requirements under Steven Gerrard, so he was loaned out to Nottingham Forest to get more opportunities. Anwar El Ghazi found himself out of favour at Aston Villa this season and opted for a loan move away in January to get more playing time, but his decision to join Everton for the second half of the campaign hasn’t gone well. Trezeguet struggled for form, fitness and playing time at Aston Villa this season, resulting in him being loaned out in the winter transfer window, but Steven Gerrard might regret letting the 27-year-old leave given how well he’s performed at Istanbul Basaksehir. The Egyptian international has made five appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals with […]
