John Terry hung up his boots in the summer of 2018 and took an assistant manager role at Villa at the same time that Dean Smith came through the door in October of that year. He helped Villa get promoted from the Championship in his first season in a coaching position, played a role in […]
Morgan Sanson appears to be having a positive impact at Aston Villa after joining from Marseille last week; and ahead of tonight’s Premier League meeting with West Ham United, former Villa defender Alan Hutton said the French midfielder could soon be given a start at the expense of John McGinn. He told Football Insider: “Everything […]
Aston Villa have signed three players from Brentford since 2017 – Scott Hogan (January 2017), Ezri Konsa (July 2019) and Ollie Watkins (September 2020) – two of whom joined after Dean Smith was Dean Smith in October 2018. One other Bees player with whom Smith was consistently linked was Said Benrahma. The 25-year-old scored 10 […]
Wesley Moraes has been out of action since January 2020 with an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury and all that Aston Villa fans want to know is when he could return. Dean Smith hasn’t given an exact timescale on when he is expecting the Brazilian striker back, but it will likely be this season as […]
Aston Villa host West Ham United at Villa Park tonight and could be in for a difficult evening given the strength of their opponents. Dean Smith’s men have won two of their last three games, but West Ham boast four wins from five. Emiliano Martinez kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Southampton […]
Kortney Hause has missed Aston Villa’s last four games due to injury and Dean Smith revealed in Monday’s pre-match press conference that his return is still four to six weeks away after undergoing a scan. Ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League meeting with West Ham, the manger stated: “Kortney has had his scan and he’s got […]
Carney Chukwuemeka is perhaps Aston Villa’s worst-kept secret. The 17-year-old is already a regular in the under-23s, was called the best player in England among his age group by Christian Purslow last year and has been tipped for a bright future, so it’s not surprising that he’s attracting interest from a number of European giants. […]
Ross Barkley has been a positive influence at Aston Villa since joining on a season-long loan from Chelsea and could be open to turning his move permanent before the campaign comes to a close. The 27-year-old was out of favour under Frank Lampard and found himself behind Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz and […]
Aston Villa are set for a quiet transfer deadline day, with little in the way of last-gasp rumours. In January, the Villans signed Morgan Sanson on a four-and-a-half year deal from Marseille, loaned out Lovre Kalinic and Conor Hourihane to Hajduk Split and Swansea respectively and sold Henri Lansbury to Bristol City. Dean Smith hinted […]
Aston Villa confirmed on Sunday that Frederic Guilbert was loaned out to Racing Strasbourg until the end of the season – a decision which has met with disdain from many Villa fans. The 26-year-old has struggled for game-time under Dean Smith and told Strasbourg’s official website that he was “hungry” for first team football. Villa […]
Aston Villa travel to face Southampton tonight and Dean Smith could make changes to the side which lost 3-2 to Burnley in midweek. Morgan Sanson is now a Villa player and might be in contention to make his debut for the club at St Mary’s. Emiliano Martinez conceded three goals on Wednesday but hasn’t put […]
Keinan Davis is in a difficult position as the January transfer window reaches its conclusion. The 22-year-old isn’t commanding a starting place at Aston Villa but won’t be granted a departure as he is the only currently available centre-forward backup to Ollie Watkins. Davis would benefit from regular playing time and had interest from Bristol […]
