On transfer deadline day, Aston Villa completed the signing of Portuguese defender, Tiago Ilori, on a season-long loan from Liverpool.
Ilori is young, determined and talented – carrying superb pace for a defender. He has developed a reputation for his quick, accurate reading of the game. The European Championships Under 21 star does seem like the potential sweeper Aston Villa need, in the heart of their defence.
The 22-year old, started his professional career at Sporting Lisbon, in 2011. Ilori made 32 appearances during his time in Portugal before joining Liverpool in 2013. He was highly profiled to have the potential to be a top centre-half. Unfortunately for the defender, he has never found the right opportunity at Liverpool to show his potential.
Ilori has spent the past two seasons out on loan at Granada in the 2013/14 season appearing nine times. And last season, at Bordeaux where he featured only 12 times.
The Portuguese man has had a frustrating time so far in his career. Since his move to Liverpool, it has never looked like the right one. Although, he will be determined to make it work, at Aston Villa, and there will be no doubt, that if he does show the right qualities, he will be given the right opportunity to step-up and prove what he can do.

In the Under 21 European Championships, this summer Ilori was a star in the Portugal defence as they finished second. He will be hoping to kick on from a successful summer with his national side and prove why the media built him up at such a young age.
Tim Sherwood clearly feels that Ilori can add to his side explaining that he believes he can ‘enhance’ the squad when talking to Aston Villa’s official website.
