Former Governor to the Bank of England, Mervyn King has joined the Aston Villa board today, the Villa website has confirmed.
Mervyn King worked at the Bank of England for ten years under a Labour and Conservative government, resigning his position in 2013.

He has been very public about his support for Aston Villa during his high-profile career in economics, evening arranging a game between ex-players and Bank of England employee’s.
King, now 67 has spoken of how excited he is to get going with his new role at the club.
It is a privilege to be asked to serve as a director of this great Club.
The move to bring in a new board of directors shows a change of tact from Randy Lerner, who failed to sell the club in the Summer.
He is now seeking to take a step back from the firing line, appointing new chairman Steven Hollis and a board of experts that will all be specialised in different areas of the industry to help kick start an Aston Villa revival.
