Former Aston Villa owner and lifetime President Doug Ellis has come out and had his say on the situation Aston Villa find themselves in this season, while also voicing his opinion on the man he sold the club to, Randy Lerner.
Doug Ellis has said that it is almost a certainty that Aston Villa will be relegated, citing the season as heartbreaking for him.
The former Aston Villa owner said the ultimate blame lay with at the door of the players, who hadn’t been good enough this year.
In the end, it’s the players that are really responsible. Unfortunately, they’ve not been good enough this season. It’s now a certainty that they will be in the Championship next year.
Speaking about the man he sold the club to, he had stated that he wished Randy Lerner spent more time with the club, rather than watching from the US, a point which has been echoed by many involved with Aston Villa.
I’m rather sad that the man I sold to hasn’t given more of his time to come and see Aston Villa play.
Aston Villa lie 20th in the table and confidence is low after a 6-0 thumping from Liverpool at home in their last Premier League game.
