Reports in France are suggesting that Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is close to making his temporary loan deal with Saint-Étienne a permanent switch.
Veretout, who joined Les Verts on a season-long loan deal in the summer, has enjoyed a rather successful season in France’s Ligue 1, playing 37 times so far this season. Veretout was even linked with Juventus in January due to his early season form.
Despite the loan deal not including an option for the club to sign the player on a permanent basis, French source But! claim that Saint-Étienne are growing more confident that they will be able to land the player, with talks with Aston Villa set to begin at the end of the season.
Veretout joined Aston Villa from Nantes in the summer of 2015 for £7 million, rejecting Leicester City to move to Birmingham.
However, the Frenchman failed to make an impact in his debut Premier League campaign as Villa slumped to relegation.
