Aston Villa have joined fellow Championship sides Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race to sign Barnsley forward Marley Watkins, as per reports.
The 26-year-old tried to engineer a move away from The Tykes in January but was unsuccessful, however, his contract at Oakwell expires this summer and it looks like he’ll leave on a free.

Norwich are said to be the team who are most likely to sign the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle star but Villa are also interested, especially as he is available on a free transfer.
Villa have been told that they can’t spend more than around £1million this summer due to FFP restrictions so if they could sign Watkins on a free, it would be a huge bonus.
The forward, who can play on either flank or down the middle, scored 10 Championship gold last season and he was also credited with nine assists.
