Aston Villa are one of the sides who are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley, as per a report from Chris Waugh of The Chronicle.
Newcastle are reportedly looking for defensive reinforcements this summer and manager Rafa Benitez is happy to let Hanley go in order to free up a space in the squad for an upgrade.
The Magpies paid £5.5million to Blackburn Rovers for the Scottish international last summer but he soon fell down the pecking order and only ended up making 10 league appearances and only five of them where as a starter.

According to the report, Derby County are the favourites to sign the 25-year-old but they are looking to spend around £4million to get him and Newcastle are looking to get back the fee that they paid to Blackburn.
With a FFP sanction hanging over their heads, Villa might not be in a position to get the Scottish defender unless they can shift some of their own unwanted players to raise funds.
