Forest Green Rovers are preparing for life back in the Football League after their promotion from the Vanarama National League and they are reportedly looking to sign Aston Villa’s young goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.
As reported by Gloucestershire Live, the 19-year-old is a target for Rovers although it’s unclear if they want him as first-choice or as a back up.
Sam Russell was Forest Green’s number one last season and he has just signed a new one year deal at the club, whilst 20-year-old Simon Lefebvre was his understudy and it’s not known exactly which of the duo they’d like to replace.
Sarkic only signed for Villa in 2015 and he’s under contract until 2020 so the club are under no pressure to sell him unless they choose to do so.
Sarkic impressed for Villa’s Under-21 side last season and as such, it’s no surprise that he has been attracting attention.
