Aston Villa are preparing to make a run at signing Wigan’s Nick Powell before the transfer window shuts on Thursday.
Graeme Bailey of the Gambling Times reports that manager Steve Bruce has convinced Villa executives to make a push for the midfielder, who has been at Wigan since 2016.
Making 68 appearances for the Latics since joining from Manchester United, the 24-year-old obliterated League One during the Lancastrians’ promotion run last season.

A youth product of Crewe Alexandra, Alex Ferguson snapped up the prospect in 2012.
As rumours Jack Grealish’s Villa career may end in the coming days with a move to Spurs, Bruce may be looking to find a possible replacement for the attacking midfielder.
Powell would provide a versatile attacking option, having spent time both as a midfielder and a forward at Wigan.
Whether their Championship rivals will choose to sell this close to the deadline remains to be seen, especially given the lack of time-frame to prepare a replacement.
