Aston Villa have made Rangers aware of the situation regarding Ross McCormack, according to the Daily Record.
The forward was embroiled in a row with manager Steve Bruce last year, and has consequently been informed he won’t feature in the team at Villa Park this year.
However, with a huge contract, Villa have found issues with trying to offload the Scotsman.
The 32-year-old was a youth product of Rangers, before securing a switch to Motherwell in 2006.

The Glaswegians have been alerted to the availability of McCormack, as manager Steven Gerrard looks to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline.
Injuries have plagued Ibrox in the early season, with Gerrard recently saying:
We’re a bit thin at the moment. We’re still waiting for Lassana to join us, hopefully he won’t be too long. Rossiter, Wallace and Dorrans are not too far away, we’re hoping they are going to be weeks away.
Subsequently, the arrival of McCormack may go some way to easing those selection fears Gerrard may be having.
McCormack joined Villa in the summer of 2016 for £12 million, and has scored three goals in 23 appearances. He has two years remaining on his contract.
