Former Aston Villa favourite and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has encouraged his old side to sign West Brom and on-loan Newcastle striker Salomon Rondon.
Speaking about the Venezuelan, as reported by the Daily Star, Merson explained that his former side should seriously consider a deal if they achieve promotion this season.
I mean £16.5m, who is looking to come up this season? If I was Aston Villa and you got promoted, I’d be buying him straightaway for £16m. In football terms, that’s a cup of tea.

Villa are among the teams battling to finish inside the play-off spots. Dean Smith’s side are currently two points ahead of Bristol City, who have played a couple of games less.
Rondon is currently on loan at Newcastle and has been impressing in the Premier League this season.
Despite his recent run of form with the Magpies, there are doubts over a permanent move in the summer.
The player will be available for £16.5 million due to a release clause in his contract with West Brom.
Villa are likely to lose Tammy Abraham in the summer regardless of promotion or not and will need to strengthen in the final third.
