McGinn to be offered an improved contract at Villa
Aston Villa had an extremely good end to their season. After beating Derby County at Wembley in the play-off final they were promoted to the Premier League, a lot of which came down to Scottish midfielder John McGinn.
According to reports by the Daily Mail, as cited by Birmingham Live, Villa are set to reward McGinn’s performances over the past season with a new contract.
The midfielder came to Villa last summer from Hibernian and signed a four-year deal. However, it now looks as though he will be offered a new contract in an attempt to ward off big Premier League sides.
It’s not surprising that top-flight teams have shown interest in the 24-year-old following his performances in the Championships, in particular, the one that helped Villa win promotion.
His winning goal at Wembley meant that McGinn was awarded Man of the Match, it also saw interest from teams like West Ham and Leicester increase, according to the report.
McGinn’s potential new contract offer may put off some Premier League clubs but Dean Smith might have to do more to keep the young midfielder.
