Aston Villa have confirmed Conor Hourihane has signed a contract extension ahead of the club’s eagerly-anticipated return to the Premier League.
The 28-year-old played a pivotal role in Villa’s promotion-winning Championship campaign last season and his commitment provides a huge boost before the action kicks off next month.
Speaking to the official club website, Hourihane expressed his delight with the new deal ahead of his first experience in the top-flight:
I’m absolutely delighted. It’s exciting times for the club with us moving into the Premier League. I’ve waited all my career for the opportunity to play at this level and the time has now arrived. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead. It’s a big period for me personally as I’ve come all the way from League Two to reach the top. I’m glad to sign and look forward to being here for seasons ahead.
Since arriving at Villa Park from Barnsley in January 2017, Hourihane has featured 111 times for the club, scoring 21 goals and providing 16 assists to earn his reputation as one of the creative forces of the side.
Dean Smith has sanctioned plenty of summer arrivals already, with the Villains’ spending almost reaching £100million.
Hourihane looks to be certainly part of his plans though and it’ll be interesting to see what the team looks like on the opening day.
