Fans react to Gareth Southgate’s praise of Jack Grealish after England defeat

Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to comments made by England manager Gareth Southgate over the performance of Jack Grealish in the 2-0 defeat to Belgium.

The Villa captain has been in excellent form this season in the Premier League, performing to a consistent level which has seen him net four goals and supply six assists in seven games [Transfermarkt].

Making his first competitive start for the Three Lions in the Nations League, Grealish produced a man of the match performance against Roberto Martinez’s side.

It proved not to be England’s night but the 25-year-old’s showing has sparked plenty of reaction.

Southgate, who saw his side defeated and fail to qualify for the Nations League finals, spoke after the game and touched on the performance of the Birmingham born attacking midfielder, telling Sky Sports:

I thought Jack had an absolutely outstanding game. What I saw that I knew I would see was someone with the bravery to play. He took the ball in tight areas, his techniques were good, he took players out of the game.

We knew he would buy a lot of free-kicks, which, of course, he did. I just thought he was outstanding. He should be absolutely delighted with the way that he played.

Below are just some of the best tweets from Villa fans in response to Southgate’s praise of Grealish….
