Dean Smith recently admitted that Aston Villa could bring in a striker when the winter transfer opens if Wesley Moraes suffers a setback in his recovery, and Birmingham Live reported that Odsonne Edouard could be tempted to Villa Park if his situation at Celtic doesn’t improve.
Smith has Ollie Watkins, Bertrand Traore and Keinan Davis at his disposal, but Traore isn’t a natural striker and Davis has barely played (four appearances) let alone scored (one goal since August 2019), so a player with 69 goals and 33 assists in 145 games for Celtic would be an improvement.
The 22-year-old has scored nine goals and supplied two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions this season but hasn’t been prolific in the Scottish Premiership. Edouard has scored just once since September and has only been on the winning team once since early October (as per Transfermarkt).
Celtic are currently second in the Premiership with 31 points from 14 games – 13 points adrift of leaders Rangers, who have played two games more. Neil Lennon’s men have only won one of their last five in the league and could relinquish the title for the first time in 10 seasons.

Edouard’s deal runs until 2022 but Birmingham Live believe he could be on his way out of Parkhead sooner if Celtic’s title bid falters.
Villa tried to sign the Frenchman, who has been hailed by his manager Neil Lennon as “talismanic“, over the summer; and they could go back in for him in January if he is made available for sale. Time will tell if any approach is successful or forthcoming, though.
In other news, one man is set to return to Aston Villa’s starting XI tomorrow after a recent injury.
