Tyrone Mings has been a regular at centre-back this season and has played his part in Aston Villa having the joint-fourth fewest goals conceded in the Premier League and the second-most clean sheets in the division.
He has been a rock at the back alongside Ezri Konsa and has caught the eye of Manchester United, according to ESPN, who claimed that the Red Devils have Mings ‘on (their) shortlist’ as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘keen’ to strengthen his backline and find a permanent partner for Harry Maguire.
Mings joined Villa from Bournemouth in 2019 and has gone on to make 75 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and supplying three assists (Transfermarkt). In his time at Villa Park, the 27-year-old has gone on to represent England, so his stock could hardly be higher right now.
The defender has three years left on his contract at Aston Villa, so he certainly wouldn’t come cheap, but might Manchester United be open to a big-money move if they have the likes of Raphael Varane and Dayot Upamecano on their shortlist, as ESPN have claimed?
There’s no suggestion that Mings wants to leave Villa, but he might find it hard to turn down a bigger club if the option is presented to him.

In a perfect world, Mings would stay, but it’s hard not to feel that he’s at the top of his game right now and could be seduced by a Champions League-chasing club.
The 27-year-old is among England’s best centre-backs, as evidenced by his selection for the national team, so it makes sense that he is attracting lucrative interest. However, with Villa having him tied down until 2024, at least they are in a strong negotiating position should the Red Devils come calling.
