Keinan Davis looks on his way out of Aston Villa until the summer as Nottingham Forest are closing in on a loan move, and Alan Hutton believes Villa could make a lot of money through his sale if his temporary stint at the City Ground is successful.
The 24-year-old has been short of form, fitness and playing time this season, finding himself behind Ollie Watkins and new-boy Danny Ings in the pecking order. Davis scored just one Premier League goal in 34 games, so he may fare better against Championship defenders.
Profligacy aside, Davis does have some qualities. He’s a quick striker who’s adept at holding up the ball, so he should make light work of second-tier opponents. Davis is currently valued at £2m-£4m, but Hutton is tipping him to make Villa a lot of money come June and July.
He told Football Insider: “I think it’s a low price. That comes off the back of that he has had his injury problems. He has not been able to play in the team for a sustained amount of time. I think that’s where it comes from.
“For Villa, I think if they can get him out to a club that suits him on loan for the rest of that season, wait and see what happens in the summer, then his value could probably increase.
“He’s got everything. His ability is there for all to see. It’s solely about staying fit. Teams aren’t going to spend £10million on a player they can only have for five games a season. It’s about him going out there, proving himself and taking it from there.”
Davis has made a total of 86 appearances since joining Villa from Biggleswade Town in 2015, scoring just six goals with seven assists. He’s featured only once in the first-team this season and that was an 11-minute cameo from the bench back in early-November.
Whether he can turn things around on loan remains to be seen.
