Fans on social media say ‘let him go’ as Axel Tuanzebe nears January exit

Axel Tuanzebe has been short of playing time since re-joining Aston Villa on loan this season, raising uncertainty over his future in the Midlands.

The 24-year-old was a regular in his second stint at Villa Park but has since fallen down the pecking order and TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Sport Witness) say Manchester United could cut his loan short in January.

TMW say Napoli are interested in Tuanzebe and hope to agree a loan deal with a buying option, but he will have to leave Villa first. And although fans love Tuanzebe for what he’s achieved in previous loan stints, many on social media are happy to see him leave.

Ray Jay: “Let him go. We need to buy a quality defender, not a back up.

William Rhodes: “Prefer Hause as the no1 backup anyway. If (Joe) Gomez is being looked at, I can see Tuanzebe going for more game time.”

Daniel Parton: “Happy to let him go but only when we have someone else in.”

Christopher Baker: “Let him go. Hause is better.”

Martin Eden: “I wouldn’t mind him going. Seems to be 4th choice anyway.”

Jay Williams: “Get rid of him. He can’t get in the squad.”

Tuanzebe first joined Villa in January 2018 and made five appearances before returning to United in May. The former England U21 international returned to Villa in August and featured 30 times before going back to Old Trafford in May 2019.

Tuanzebe went to Villa for a third time in August 2021 but has only managed 11 appearances from a possible 22 as Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have been preferred in defence.

Steven Gerrard has no place for the 24-year-old in his side, so United should bring him back to Manchester to loan him out elsewhere.
