Media react to ‘error-prone’ Tyrone Mings being ‘at fault’ in Leeds draw

Aston Villa threw away a 3-1 lead over Leeds United to draw 3-3 on Wednesday evening and Tyrone Mings came under criticism for his performance. The 28-year-old was culpable for all three goals Villa conceded on the night and was given a player rating of 4/10 by Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live.

In the build up to Leeds’ opener, Mings failed to clear his lines and was dispossessed before Dan James fired home. United’s second goal saw Mings beaten in the air by James after a cross looped high above the goal. Their third goal came from Mings failing to clear the ball beyond Diego Llorente who fired home from close range.

Preece said Mings has a ‘nightmare’ of a game and was ‘at fault’ for at least two of the three goals. He wasn’t the only one critical of the England international. Adam Crafton of The Athletic said Mings ‘basically assisted’ all Leeds’ goals on the night. Zach Lowy of Breaking The Lines said the 28-year-old is ‘too error-prone’ to be a regular under Steven Gerrard.

Martin Laurence of WhoScored described the performance as typical of Mings and WhoScored tweeted that the Englishman has made more errors leading to goals (4) than any other Premier League outfielder in the last three seasons.

Gerrard may have a difficult decision to make if he doesn’t feel he can rely on his captain to stay consistent.
