Emiliano Buendia joined Aston Villa on a five-year deal from Norwich City last summer and has gone on to make 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with four assists.
The 25-year-old set Villa back £38m in June but has scored just one Premier League goal since August 2021 and has only one assist in the top-flight since the turn of the year.
Buendia scored 15 goals and made 17 assists in 39 Championship games for Norwich last season but has suffered with the step up in quality. The Argentine international has put in some good performances, but his lowly output has resulted in him being dropped.
Buendia has started just one of Villa’s last seven league games, so Steven Gerrard is losing trust in the club-record signing. But with four years left on his deal, coupled with a market value of £31.5m, it’s hard to see him being sold this summer.
There won’t be a queue of suitors looking to sign the 25-year-old due to his poor numbers, so Gerrard will have to work with Buendia to help him turn things around. Time will tell if he’s successful.
