Leon Bailey played a full 90 minutes in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw with Leicester City but didn’t put in a good performance. The 24-year-old missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock and his afternoon got worse from there.
He started alongside Philippe Coutinho in an attacking-midfield role but was pretty ineffective and looks to be suffering from the lack of playing time.
Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave Bailey a player rating of 4/10 and said he looked ‘rusty’. And while showing glimpses of quality, Preece noted that Steven Gerrard cut a frustrated figure from his antics.
Cole Pettem of 7500 to Holte gave the Jamaican international a player rating of 3/10, noting how Bailey looked short of confidence and struggled to play accurate passes. Tom Gott of 90min gave Bailey a player rating of 3/10 and said he was ‘isolated’.
The 24-year-old has made 17 Premier League appearances since joining Villa on a four-year deal from Bayer Leverkusen, scoring one goal with two assists. Since the turn of the year, all Bailey has managed is two created chances and two shots on target.
It’s a wonder he plays at all given his poor output. The Midlands outfit may have a decision to make this summer whether they think Bailey is worth sticking with.
