The Women’s Super League comes to a temporary standstill this week as the April international window takes center stage. It is a massive period for the Villa contingent, with no fewer than 13 first-team stars jetting off to represent their nations across the globe.
From high-stakes 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers to crucial UEFA Women’s U19 Euro rounds, the Claret and Blue will be well-represented on the world stage
Trio link up with England
Goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck and midfielder Lucia Kendall have been named in the England senior squad. The Lionesses continue their World Cup qualifying campaign with two fixtures against reigning champions Spain and then Iceland.
Wembley hosts the first match on Tuesday 14th April at 19:00 UK time. They then travel to Reykjavik to take on Iceland on Saturday 18th April at 17:30 UK time.
Rachel Maltby links up with the England U-19 squad for their EURO second-round qualifiers. Fixtures against Latvia, Wales and Switzerland take place over the next week.
Wales, Scotland and Ireland
19-year-old Soffia Kelly, who is on loan at Rangers for the season, has been called up to the Welsh U-19 squad for their EURO second-round qualifiers. She will face Maltby on Thursday.
Miri Taylor and in-form Kirsty Hanson prepare for a double header with Belgium, as Scotland continue their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Tuesday 14th April, 19:30 UK time at Easter Road Stadium is when the first match kicks off, before they travel to Leuven for the second tie on Saturday 18th April, 19:30 UK time.
Elsewhere, Anna Patten joins up with Ireland for their clash with Poland. The first leg is on Tuesday at 17:00 UK time, and the return leg is at home on Saturday 18th April, 15:00 UK time.
Europe call-ups
Four players have been named in their respective European nations, with three of them potentially facing one another.
Oriane Jean-François may play for France in their double header, taking on Dutch duo Lynn Wilms and Chasity Grant for the Netherlands. Their bouts are next Tuesday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, Noelle Martiz reports for Switzerland as they face Turkey in Group F of the World Cup qualifiers.
Hijikata takes on the States whilst D’Angelo competes in the FIFA Series
Maya Hijikata’s Japan head to the United States for a trio of friendlies. They go into the matches off the back of their Asian Women’s Cup victory last month.
The first fixture takes place this Saturday in California, whilst the second is on Tuesday in Washington, and the third in Colorado next Friday.
Finally, Canadian Sabrina D’Angelo travels to Brazil for the FIFA Series 2026. Canada begins their campaign against Zambia on Saturday, before facing Korea on Tuesday, and then finishing against Brazil on Sunday 18th April.
It’s a chance for some of the Villa Women players to find some form as they enter the final couple of months of the 2025/26 season. They currently sit in ninth place, one point behind sixth. Natalia Arroyo will be hoping they can climb up the table and finish the season on a high.
