Aston Villa have gained a clearer route to Pedro Vite, with Pumas UNAM now braced for interest in the Ecuador midfielder this summer.
Sport Witness, relaying Record Mexico journalist Rene Tovar, report that Pumas now see Vite as “almost impossible” to keep. The Mexican club have not received a formal offer yet, but the mood around the player has shifted.
The 24-year-old has entered Villa’s transfer thinking since Ecuador’s World Cup exit. Read Aston Villa reported on Wednesday that Villa were preparing a move once his tournament had ended.
Vite joined Pumas from Vancouver Whitecaps and raised his profile at the World Cup. Pumas also praised his display in Ecuador’s win over Germany, when he played a part in both goals.
For Unai Emery, the appeal is clear. Vite can play across attacking midfield and should cost less than many Premier League-based options.
Villa have not made a formal offer yet, but this is a deal with room to move. If they act quickly, they may find Pumas already prepared to sell.
