Aston Villa are now waiting on the Court of Arbitration for Sport after their appeal to register Brian Madjo was heard on Wednesday.
The Associated Press reports that CAS confirmed Villa’s hearing against FIFA went ahead as scheduled. No target date has been set for a ruling.
The dispute centres on Madjo, the north London-born 17-year-old forward signed from Metz in January for a reported €12million. He has still not been cleared to play competitive football for Villa.
FIFA blocked the registration under rules restricting international transfers involving players under the age of 18. Madjo turns 18 in January, so a failed appeal would leave Villa waiting months before he could feature for the first team or academy sides.
Villa Face Key Brian Madjo Registration Wait
The timing matters.
Villa have Champions League football to plan for, while the September squad-list period is moving closer. UEFA’s registration deadline and the Premier League list both sit around the end of the summer window.
ReadAstonVilla previously reported that Villa’s appeal to register Madjo would be heard by CAS on July 1. The new development is that the hearing has now taken place.
That shifts the case from preparation to waiting.
If CAS rules in Villa’s favour, Unai Emery could finally integrate Madjo during a crucial pre-season window. That would give Villa a clearer view of one of their most expensive youth investments.
If not, the player remains frozen out of competitive football until 2027.
For Villa, this is not only an academy issue. It is a squad-planning issue.
Madjo was signed as a high-value young forward with first-team potential. Every extra month without competitive minutes makes the development plan harder to control.
Villa now need clarity quickly. The hearing is over, but the real sporting impact will only arrive when CAS delivers its ruling.
