Sheffield Wednesday are exploring a permanent move for Aston Villa forward Louie Barry as their summer rebuild gathers pace.
Birmingham Live reports that the League One club have been credited with interest in Barry. The report also says a proposed £3.5m move to Hull City collapsed last year after the Tigers were hit by a transfer embargo.
The72, citing The Star, adds that Wednesday are open to several structures but currently hold interest in a permanent deal for the 23-year-old attacker.
Barry signed a new Villa contract before joining Hull on loan in January 2025. Aston Villa confirmed at the time that he had agreed fresh terms and moved to the Tigers for the rest of the season.
Villa Must Decide Barry Value
Barry’s case is not simple academy housekeeping.
He has spent much of his senior development away from Bodymoor Heath. Villa confirmed in February that he had returned to Stockport County on loan for a third spell, after earlier moves to Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Salford City.
That loan history shows his EFL demand. It also underlines the issue for Villa.
Unai Emery’s attacking group remains difficult to break into. Barry still has profile and resale value, but his first-team route looks narrow.
For Villa, the choice is clear. They can bank a fee now and protect future upside with a sell-on clause. Or they can keep him for pre-season and risk the market moving on.
Read Aston Villa has already covered why Barry’s future needed clarity this summer. Sheffield Wednesday’s interest now gives the club another decision point.
A permanent move would not surprise Villa. The structure still matters.
If Wednesday push seriously, Villa should protect future value rather than treat Barry as a routine departure.
