Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Aston Villa to abandon the Alejandro Garnacho Aston Villa transfer. The former Villa captain described the proposed Chelsea loan deal as a “nightmare” and questioned whether the winger would improve Unai Emery’s squad.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor criticised Garnacho’s performances and attitude during spells with Manchester United and Chelsea. He also questioned why both clubs became willing to sell the 22-year-old.
Villa are reportedly closing in on an initial loan containing a conditional obligation to buy. Garnacho scored once in 24 Premier League appearances during his first Chelsea season, although he recorded eight goals across all competitions.
Agbonlahor believes the move could disrupt the strong dressing-room culture built by Emery. However, he acknowledged the Villa manager’s previous success in improving players whose careers had stalled elsewhere.

Aston Villa have already submitted an official bid for Garnacho. The proposal includes an initial loan and a clause which could make the transfer permanent.
Emery has approved Garnacho as a target following Morgan Rogers’ £117million move to Chelsea. The Argentina international would provide pace from the left and offer Villa a direct threat in transition.
Still, Agbonlahor believes Villa should target a more reliable replacement for Rogers. He also criticised the potential obligation to buy, which could leave the club committed to a large future fee.
Garnacho remains young enough to improve under Emery. Nevertheless, his inconsistent Chelsea campaign and reported disciplinary concerns make the deal a calculated risk.
