Aston Villa’s move for Pervis Estupiñán has reportedly been delayed after AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim asked to assess the defender.
Italian journalist Orazio Accomando reports that Milan have temporarily blocked the Ecuador international’s departure. Amorim wants more time to evaluate Estupiñán before deciding whether the club should approve his return to the Premier League.
The development represents a late change in Milan’s position. Estupiñán had been considered available after struggling to secure a consistent starting place during his first season at San Siro.
Villa had moved quickly to take advantage. ReadAstonVilla previously reported that the clubs were closing in on an agreement worth around £13million, while the defender was understood to have accepted a contract until 2030.

The latest update does not suggest Villa have withdrawn from negotiations. Instead, Milan want Amorim to complete his assessment before making a final decision over the 28-year-old.
Estupiñán was left out of Milan’s squad for Saturday’s friendly against Celtic. However, reports in Italy have linked that absence to his transfer situation rather than an injury.
Unai Emery previously worked with Estupiñán at Villarreal and knows the qualities he would bring. The left-back offers Premier League experience, recovery pace and an aggressive attacking presence on the outside.
Villa view Ian Maatsen as their long-term first choice, with Estupiñán targeted to replace the departing Lucas Digne and provide stronger competition.
