Boubacar Kamara at Aston Villa
Initially, Villa signed Kamara from Marseille in May 2022. Specifically, he agreed a five-year contract as his Marseille deal expired. Immediately, he took up the defensive midfield role in front of the back four. Afterwards, he made 24 league appearances in his first English season. Meanwhile, Amadou Onana later joined him in that same area of the pitch.
Subsequently, Kamara extended his Villa contract until 2030 in July 2025. Later, a serious knee injury ended his 2025/26 season in January. Consequently, he missed the Europa League final in Istanbul. Nevertheless, he recovered over the summer and returned during pre-season. Presently, he holds 90 league appearances and two goals for Villa.
Career Before Aston Villa
Previously, Boubacar Kamara came through the Marseille academy in his home city. Initially, he joined the club’s youth ranks in 2005. Eventually, he made his senior debut during the 2016/17 campaign. Furthermore, he played 130 Ligue 1 matches for the first team. Additionally, he scored three league goals across those six seasons.
Meanwhile, Marseille used him at centre-back as well as in midfield. Notably, he reached the 2018 Europa League final with the club. There, Atlético Madrid beat them 3–0 in the showpiece. Afterwards, he started 122 of those 130 league matches. Ultimately, he chose England when his Marseille contract ran down.
