We at ReadAstonVilla have decided to take a look at four things we learnt from our 3-2 loss against Leicester.
Carles who?
When Tim Sherwood arrived at Villa Park in February 2015, it meant that Carles Gil would hardly play for the rest of the season. However, on his first start today since Tim Sherwood’s first game against Stoke he showed everyone what he can do. A superb second goal which was scored from the outside of the area put Villa 2-0 in front seemed to have secured a vital win for Villa, however, it was not to be.
What are you doing Brad?
With Leicester having equalized through Jamie Vardy, Villa needed to keep their cool and at least see the game out for a draw. However, in a moment of madness, Brad Guzan decided to come out to try and claim a cross that was heading for the head of Nathan Dyer. Guzan completely missed the ball and instead clattered into Nathan Dyer whilst the ball rebounded off Dyer and into the goal to give Leicester the win. Brad’s position will be under scrutiny now and rightly so, he has made too many errors under Tim Sherwood.
Substitutions can cost you games
When Carlos Gil and Gabby Agbonlahor were substituted, Villa lost their main outlets which was one of the main reasons Leicester got back into the game and eventually won. It’s not the first time Sherwood’s substitutions have been called into question and it’s something he will need to have a look at in the future to ensure that it does not become an issue every week.
Bacuna is no right back
It’s not the first time Bacuna has been deployed at right back since joining the club in 2013, however, he was incredibly out of his depth today.
