Aston Villa are reportedly one of the favourite teams to sign Real Madrid forward Endrick on a loan deal in January. This is despite competition from Roma and Lyon for the Brazilian.
It has been revealed by Spanish outlet CADENA SER that the 20-year-old forward’s time at the Bernabeu is sliding towards another winter exit. Endrick comes to the Spanish capital with the biggest expectations. His debut season at the club has not gone as planned. A conversation with José Mourinho before the start of the season has not helped with the player wanting to leave already.
His path to regularly playing football looks well and truly blocked after all.
With Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior and Brahim Díaz competing for those positions, there’s already competition. And now with more coming back from injury, Endrick finds himself right at the back of the queue.
It doesn’t look great for a young striker hoping to get some rhythm and confidence into his game just yet.
Villa’s Pulling Power
Unai Emery’s past encounters with young offensive players make Villa an interesting choice. The Basque trainer has repeatedly proven that he has the ability to develop talented athletes. Incorporating them into an efficient and competitive system.
For Endrick, being with Villa means getting training in the Champions League and competing in the Premier League. Giving him a chance to gain real playing time.
Getting Champions League football could be very important. If Villa are still competing for a number of trophies in January, the possibility of European nights at Villa Park may carry weight.
Familiar Ground
Endrick was on loan at Lyon last season and had a great time there before coming back to the club, where he’ll be well received.
The Brazilian forward regained his self-confidence while at Lyon as well as working on his finishing skills that have been a major concern for Madrid’s management this summer.
Roma was also still interested in Endrick during this summer transfer window.
The Verdict
While it is unclear when the final decision will come about, clarity is provided week on week. If Endrick does not play a pivotal role in the upcoming matches, he will need to find another route to create a case for his future at Real Madrid.
Villa’s dedicated supporters are experiencing the kind of smart tactical recruitment that all clubs hoping to compete at the highest level should engage in. With great pace, a direct playing style, and an instinctive attacking mindset, Endrick would be a valuable addition to an already strong team.
If you consider that Emery is capable of delivering results and developing talents, a winter transfer for him may not be too risky after all.
The race is heating up. Villa, it seems, are ready to make their move.
