Aston Villa defender Matteo Ruggeri completed 18 of his 20 passes during a 55-minute appearance for Italy against Türkiye on Monday, according to figures shared by Aston Villa Statto.
The left-back started the Nations League meeting in Bologna, adding another international appearance after making his senior debut against the same opponents earlier in the window.
Statto’s breakdown credits Ruggeri with 34 touches, three clearances, one interception and two recoveries alongside his 90% passing accuracy.
Ruggeri adds Italy minutes before Aston Villa return
The figures offer a snapshot of Ruggeri’s involvement, with contributions in possession and defensively. They do not, by themselves, establish how he performed across every aspect of the game.
His continued involvement nevertheless adds to an important spell for the Villa defender.
Ruggeri made his senior Italy debut in the 4–1 victory over Türkiye after starting Villa’s wins over Coventry City and Tottenham.
Ian Maatsen’s absence has increased his importance to Unai Emery. The Dutchman’s initial recovery estimate points towards late October or early November, with our Maatsen injury timeline explaining the outlook.
Villa next face Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday. Ruggeri’s international appearances give him further match practice before Emery assesses his options for the Premier League restart.
