Gary Gardner back with a bang

Gary Gardner has confirmed on his twitter yesterday that he back on the playing field.

The midfielder scored and assisted one in a brief 45 minute stint on the pitch in a reserve game.

The Villa academy graduate suffered an ankle injury during pre-season that has seem him fall down the pecking order in midfield – but the midfielder is as determined as ever to break into the first team.

Gardner, 23 has had his issues with injuries throughout recent years, with a crucial ligament rupture being one of a few major set backs.

But the Birmingham-born midfielder is determined to hit the ground running after an impressive pre-season under Tim Sherwood – taking the competition that is provided now in midfield as a challenge going forward.

Gardner had two successful periods out on loan last season, scoring six times in 35 games while assisting once.
