Aston Villa went down 3-1 away to Spurs in a game where Villa were second best for large parts. So are there any good things to pick out of the game? Matt Lynch takes a look in ‘2 Good 2 Bad’
Two Good
Garde Is In Charge
Remi Garde has finally been appointed as manager at Villa Park. The Frenchman should offer a breath of fresh air and hopefully reignite a side that is certainly low on confidence. He has a big job on his hands with only Crystal Palace surviving after losing so many at the start of last season. The early impressions based on French journalists – suggest that Garde could be a hero.
Ayew and Gil
Neither did Jordan Ayew or Carles Gil start against Tottenham, but both of them impressed when they were called upon. Ayew ran and ran as soon as he came on the pitch for Westwood. Gil came on and was a big influence in Villa’s ten minute flourish towards the end. Ayew took the goal well. It is clear we need both starting to succeed.

Two Bad
Agbonlahor is a joke
Gabriel Agbonlahor – the epitome of what a model professional should be like for loyalty some say. They must be joking. The only reason why Agbonlahor is still at Aston Villa football club is because he is awful. He was subbed at half-time and rightfully so. Lazy, lacklustre and totally destroyed by the Sky Sports pundits for his eight touches in the first half with two coming from kickoffs.

Defensive Frailties
Villa are a lost cause if you want to put it kindly. The defence is all over the place much like the forward line. It is unorganised and atrocious. Kieran Richardson does not deserve to be pulling on a Villa shirt. Ciaran Clark looked back to being ‘Calamitous Clark’ against Spurs. The defence needs reorganising. Communication lessons are needed. Also Guzan was poor again conceeding at his near post.
