Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is looking to make his first Christmas in English football a memorable one as he hopes to see a change in his side’s fortunes over the festive period.
Villa find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League and without a win in the league since the opening day of the season, but Veretout hopes that Remi Garde’s men can turn their season around.
Veretout has spoken recently of his desire to win his side’s next few games, with their relegation six-pointer against Newcastle this weekend looming.

“We have the game at Newcastle coming up this weekend and we’re determined to pick up a good result there. It was a difficult match against Arsenal but the way we came back into it in the second half – after a frustrating first half – gives us something to build on.”
Veretout has spoken of how his one desire for Christmas time is not for the presents and gifts that come with the festive period, but to help his side to climb out of the relegation zone.
“Obviously people talk about presents at this time of year and for me, it’s about bringing Villa up the table and saving us from relegation – that’s my aim and the aim of the entire squad. That would make for a very Happy Christmas.”
The French midfielder has also been appreciative of the support that the Villa fans have provided for him and the team since his arrival.
“The fans have been great with me, very supportive. I feel their passion every week and now it’s about rewarding that with goals, results and progress up the table”.
