Aston Villa manager, Remi Garde has been without an assistant manager since joining the club in November and now he is set to get one with the imminent appointment of Eric Black according to the Telegraph.

Black has connections to France which was seen as a pivotal reason behind the appointment. The 52-year old played for Metz between 1986 and 1991, meaning he will be capable of speaking in fluent English and French – an asset given Villa’s French contingent of players.

John Percy reports that The Villans manager has purposely ‘headhunted’ Black, who has had stints at Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, and Rotherham United in the backroom staff.

He was also manager at Motherwell and Coventry City before taking a back seat as a coach. Black was also a vital cog in the year Aberdeen lifted the European Winner’s Cup under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The appointment may be a bemusing one to fans but he brings that all important Championship experience.
