Could Paddy Riley be on his way out of Villa Park?

Paddy Riley could be the latest victim of Villa’s restructuring by the new football board, according to the Telegraph.

Riley, who was brought back to Villa by Randy Lerner after a spell at Liverpool, is seemingly next in the firing line after the departures of Tom Fox and Hendrik Almstadt.

Since being brought back into the fold in November 2014, after a two-year spell with Liverpool, Riley has taken over the responsibility for over seeing Villa’s scouting network as well as being partially responsible for the players who were brought in last summer, along with Hendrik Almstadt.

However, with Tom Fox and Almstadt having now left Villa, attention has now turned to Riley. Recently appointed board member, David Bernstein, the former chairman of the FA and Manchester City, is currently undertaking a review of the football side of the club and he is rumoured to be dismayed at the current state of the scouting network.

According to the Telegraph, the scouting network which Riley has responsibility for is falling apart. The head European scout, John Bickers, has emigrated to Austrailia, whilst the scout appointed to watch La Liga and Portuguese football, Simon Ward, is currently studying journalism at university.

If Riley is dismissed from his post, he is unlikely to be the only casualty, with Remi Garde seemingly also following him out the exit dor at Villa Park, possibly before the season ends.
