With Remi Garde’s fate seemingly sealed, the attention has now turned to who replace him in the Villa Park hot seat.
The Telegraph reports that Burnley manager, Sean Dyche, is one of the names being considered by the Villa board.
Dyche, who began his managerial career with Watford in 2011, has been in charge of the Clarets since 2012 and led them to promotion to the Premier League in 2014. However, Burnley’s stay in the top flight was a short one, after they were relegated after just one season, as they finished in 19th place on 33 points, five points short of safety.
If Villa are to appoint Dyche as Garde’s successor, they will have to be prepared to pay a hefty compensation package, due to Dyche signing a new contract with Burnley in February.
However, it is likely Dyche will reject the chance to take over at Villa Park, with Burnley and Villa set to swap divisions in the summer. Burnley currently lie in first place in the Championship, four points clear of second-placed Brighton, whilst Villa are currently rock bottom of the Premier League and are set to be relegated sometime over the next few weeks,
If Dyche does turn down Villa, David Bernstein and Brian Little, the two men with the responsibility of appointing the new manager, are likely to try and attempt to secure the services of Nigel Pearson who secured promotion with Leicester to the Premier League in 2014.
Who would you prefer to be the next Villa manager? Sean Dyche or Nigel Pearson?
