Remi Garde has left Aston Villa by mutual consent, the club has confirmed.
Garde, who was appointed at the beginning of November as Tim Sherwood’s successor after Villa’s disastrous start to the season, has failed to turn around the club’s season with Villa only managing two league wins and a win against Wycombe in an FA Cup 3rd round replay.
During his time at Villa Park, Garde has often been left with a threadbare squad due to numerous injuries and was unable to strengthen the Villa squad during the January transfer window, despite apparent assurances he would have the funds to do so during the negotiations before he agreed to take the job.
Under his leadership, Villa have lost their last seven games, including a 6-0 defeat at home to Liverpool which all but destroyed any hopes Villa had of staying up.
In the short statement released in conjunction with Garde’s departure, there was the following statement:
“The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Rémi for all his efforts during a difficult period and wish him well in the future.”
It has also been announced that first team coach Eric Black will take charge whilst the club begin the search for Garde’s successor.
