Villa fell to their eighth successive defeat as Chelsea cruised to a 4-0 win at Villa Park, whilst Alan Hutton was also sent off for the home side.
The game was the first of the post-Remi Garde era, with Eric Black in temporary charge, but there was to be no change as Villa once again were defeated.
Chelsea initially had a goal ruled out during the first half, when Pedro was ruled to be offside after he chipped the ball over Brad Guzan. However, it wouldn’t take long for Chelsea to go into the lead after that, with Loftus-Cheek putting the visitors ahead in the 26th minute.

The visitors extended their lead when Pato, who was making his Chelsea debut, won and then scored a penalty to put Chelsea 2-0 ahead just before half time.
Chelsea’s third came just after half time when Pedro fired into the back of the net and the Spaniard would have his second 13 minutes later as Chelsea went into cruise control against an incredibly abject Villa side.
The misery was not over for Villa, with Alan Hutton receiving a second yellow card after a heavy challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The game also saw numerous protests by the Villa fans, with booing quite clearly evident at full time and various banners held up throughout the match.
