Club legend and former Villa captain Ian Taylor believes Villa need to get a manager in as soon as possible in order to prepare for the Championship.
Taylor, who made 293 appearances for Villa between 1994 and 2003, also believes however that any potential new manager is not going to want to join until Villa’s relegation to the Championship is confirmed, which could be as early as this Saturday, if Villa don’t beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Taylor said:
I’d love the club to get someone in as soon as possible,
It would be ideal to start planning now and if I was a manager I’d want to get involved early.
A manager won’t come in until they are actually relegated, though. No-one wants that on their CV.
I certainly can’t see anything happening this week, but in truth, the quicker they get the new man in after that, the better.
Taylor also said that Villa’s new manager needs to have experience of managing in the Championship, with Taylor describing the Championship as a ‘different beast altogether’.
It’s essential and there are a few managers out there who fit the bill.
There’s a few who are out of work who I wouldn’t mind taking in, if it was down to me that is.
The Championship is a different beast altogether and you need someone who knows what it’s all about.
Remi Garde had no experience of that division so he wouldn’t have been the ideal man in my view.
With Villa’s relegation to the Championship set to be confirmed on Saturday, could we see a new manager in charge ahead of the game against Southampton the following Saturday or will Villa wait until the summer to confirm their third managerial appointment in 18 months?
