Reason for the departures of Bernstein and King revealed

The resignations of David Bernstein and Mervyn King were triggered by a falling out with Randy Lerner, according to David Ornstein of the BBC.

Bernstein and King, who both resigned from their positions on the football board on Monday, are said to have been frustrated at how little progress they had been able to make during their time at Villa.

According to Ornstein, an email that was sent between Bernstein and King included criticism of Lerner and then subsequently was leaked to the American, who then responded with an email that made Bernstein and King feel like their positions were no longer tenable.

With Bernstein and King having departed Aston Villa, only Steve Hollis, Brian Little and Adrian Bevington remain on the football board at Villa Park, with the latter expected to announce his departure in the coming days.

It therefore means that the task of recruiting Villa’s next manager will fall to Steve Hollis and ex-Villa manager Brian Little, although the BBC also report that prior to their resignations, Bernstein and King handed Hollis a list of four potential replacements for Remi Garde.
