Agbonlahor steps down as Club captain

Gabby Agbonlahor has relinquished his role as club captain, the club has confirmed.

Agbonlahor, who was suspended for the second time in a month after images surfaced of him partying hours after Villa’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed, was given the role of club captain at the beginning of the season, whilst Micah Richards was named as team captain.

However, he will be allowed to take part in Villa’s final two games of the season with the club confirming he will be available for selection from Monday.

The club has also confirmed that they had fined Agbonlahor heavily and further stated they had reminded him of his duty and responsibilities as an Aston Villa player.

He has also struggled badly for form this season, with his only goal so far this campaign coming against Norwich in February, with his last appearance coming against Swansea in March, in what proved to be Remi Garde’s last match as manager of Aston Villa.
