Aston Villa’s new owner Dr Tony Xia believes the club will not end up like Leeds United when talking about getting the Midlands side back to the Premier League.
The Villans owner and chairman was speaking to Neil Harris from the Mail where he highlighted his plans to get Aston Villa back to the Premier League and his vision for the club after that.
He referenced Leeds Untied when talking about how he doesn’t want to be a former Premier League side that have struggled in the Championship for years after and that his immediate plan was to invest and he was confident of a quick return to England’s top flight.
I don’t think we’ll end up like Leeds or like other teams who’ve come down from the Premier League and struggled for years and years. I know exactly what the financial situation is here and I’m ready to invest. And I have confidence in my management team.
The takeover from Randy Lerner was announced towards the end of May but it was finally confirmed with the Football League and Premier League this week.
In the interview with Harris, Xia spoke widely of his wider ambitions for the club including making them one of the best sides in Europe and using the famous claret and blue branding at other clubs as part of plans going forward.
Xia said that he plans to return Aston Villa back to ‘where they belong’.
