Aston Villa’s new chairman Dr Tony Xia has said that Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo will need to bring in new signings this summer, whilst selling Villa’s worst players.
Xia has said that Di Matteo will need to let go off the players who are ‘really bad’ for Aston Villa. Going off last season’s performances, Villa may not have many players left by the end of the removal process.
The new chairman has also promised funds, although has not specified how much. If Villa are to sell a number of players then they will need to bring in many more. This means that a complete squad overhaul is looking likely this summer for Di Matteo.
Speaking to The Birmingham Mail, Xia said this:
I didn’t specify how much money Roberto Di Matteo has to spend.
I said he needs money to get the right players and move out the ones who are really bad for this team.
We will support the management team to do the right things.
If this is the case, Villa fans will need to be patient as a whole new squad will need to time to gel and prepare for the rigours of Championship football.
