Aston Villa started their 2016/17 Championship campaign in the same way they ended their 2015/16 Premier League campaign; with a pretty disappointing loss away from home.
On Sunday evening Villa lost 1-0 away to beaten play-off finalists Sheffield Wednesday after a goalkeeping error late on in the game (85th minute) allowed Forestieri to slot the ball past Gollini.
This defeat now means that Villa have not won a league match since they beat Norwich way back in February. However, despite this loss, there are some positives for Di Matteo to take from the game. Villa were pretty poor in the first half; however, they grew in stature as the game went on and were looking the more likely to sneak a goal and grab all three points. At the very least, a point looked on the cards.
However, it wasn’t to be and Villa fans will be going home with that all too familiar feeling of defeat.
Below are my ratings of each Villa player.
