Elphick set to join Reading on loan
Sky Sports have reported that Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick is set to join championship rivals Reading on loan for the remainder of the season as he looks for regular first team football.
Since joining from Bournemouth in 2016, Elphick has struggled for first team football during his time at Villa Park. He has only made four league appearances this season but stepped in for the injured John Terry fantastically well over an injury ridden festive period.
With Terry back to full fitness and Manchester United youngster Axel Tuanzebe joining on loan, Elphick’s chances of playing regular look slim so a loan move to Jaap Stam’s Reading should turn out to be a good move for both club and player.
Bruce has all but confirmed Elphick’s loan move saying:
It looks as if he’s going to go to Reading, thought it was right for Tommy. I can’t give him what he wants.
Bruce is said to highly rate Elphick but simply cant give him his desired amount of first team football.
It shouldn’t take Elphick too long to get settled in at the Madejski as he can link up with former Villa team mate Leonardo Bacuna who joined the Royals last summer.
