Did Youri Tielemans make a wrong decision to leave Aston Villa?

Youri Tielemans playing for Aston Villa amid Manchester United transfer interest

Youri Tielemans left Aston Villa for Manchester United in a 35£ million deal after spending 3 years at Aston Villa, winning the Europa League in his final game.

Youri Tielemans has been a regular at Manchester United but he has failed to reciprocate the same form he enjoyed at Aston Villa.

Manchester United have struggled this season and Youri Tielemans’ dip in form is evident. He is yet to find rhythm at his new club.

Former Aston Villa scout Bryan King believes Youri Tielemans could be questioning his decision to leave the club after Unai Emery’s side found their form in the Premier League.

Villa endured a difficult start to the season, failing to win any of their opening four matches. However, the club stuck with Emery and backed him through a summer transfer window that saw several important players leave.

Villa’s recent victory over Manchester City has been a major moment in their campaign, with the team now climbing back up the table.

Bryan King thinks Youri Tielemans must regret leaving Villa

Bryan King believes Villa deserve credit for how they handled their summer business. The club reinvested money received from the departures of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and other players, allowing Emery to strengthen his squad.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Villa scout praised the club’s approach and suggested Tielemans might be having second thoughts about leaving.

“You certainly have to give a lot of praise for the recruitment during the summer. They never sat back. They went out and spent the money that they got in from [Morgan] Rogers and from the other players.

“I bet people like Tielemans are starting to think, ‘I wish I’d stayed’. One player doesn’t make a football team.”

Youri Tielemans made 134 appearances during his three years at Villa. He had enjoyed an excellent spell at the club, followed by a strong World Cup with Belgium, before moving on to Manchester United.

The midfielder has made 12 appearances for Manchester United so far this season, but King believes losing a key player does not have to derail a team.

Aston Villa start finding their rhythm

Villa have won four of their last five matches, a run that has helped change the mood around the club after their early struggles. They currently sit ninth in the Premier League with 11 points from eight matches.

Emery’s side next travel to Fulham in the Premier League, who also struggled at the start of the season but are finding their way back under Alvaro Arbeloa.

The win over Manchester City offered Aston Villa some encouragement after the uncertainty surrounding their opening results. They would be hoping to get their form back on track, despite exiting the Carabao Cup, losing 0-3 to Bournemouth.

Youri Tielemans enjoyed a successful spell in claret and blue, yet Villa’s revival has given King reason to question whether the midfielder made the right decision to leave.
