Youri Tielemans Could Regret Manchester United Move as Aston Villa Impress, Claims Former Scout

Youri Tielemans may already be questioning his decision to leave Aston Villa for Manchester United. This is according to former Villa scout Bryan King.

The Belgium midfielder arrived at United in the summer after the club triggered his 35 million pound release clause. He has failed to hit the ground running at Old Trafford while his former club are gaining momentum under Unai Emery.

The recent 2-1 win over Manchester City has highlighted the differences between the two sides. King feels Villa have improved because of their summer signings. Tielemans may be starting to doubt his decision to leave.

King told Football Insider that Villa have been continuously improving despite losing key players during the transfer window.

King Questions Tielemans’ Decision to Leave Villa

Tielemans joined Villa on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023 and has played for the club for three seasons.

The Belgian has played 134 games and scored the opening goal in the Europa League final win over Freiburg.

However, it does mark a major shift for Emery’s midfield, but Villa have been in good form since their summer recruitment.

He praised Villa for their response to losing players in the summer and how they have performed since bringing in new arrivals.

He also praised the club for their transfer strategy and how they have got good value for money by reinvesting their fees.

‘Tielemans might be wondering if he should have gone to Manchester United. His absence has not really affected Villa’s good run of form,’ the former scout added.

Manchester United Move Brings New Challenges

Tielemans arrived at Old Trafford after an impressive final season with Villa. His first 12 appearances for United have reportedly proved difficult.

But the 29-year-old has also been playing in a more advanced role. This raises questions about how he will fit in to the midfield.

His move comes after a good run of form for Villa, where he had become an influential player under Emery.

He has thanked the club for helping him get back to his best but said he could not resist the chance to join United.

“I am very thankful to Aston Villa. I owe them the world. It is a great club. We did amazing things, and they have put me back to my best level,” he said in August.

He added that joining United represented a significant achievement in his career. He stressed that he wanted to win trophies at his new club.

Villa’s Progress Highlights Tielemans’ Departure

Villa have had another positive result with their good run in the autumn.

King admitted that City did create chances and had a header from Erling Haaland that was cleared off the line by Villa but believed that Emery’s side deserved to win.

The summer signings have helped them keep going despite losing players like Tielemans and Morgan Rogers.

The uncertainty around Manchester United’s manager could also play a role.

A new manager could mean a different style of play, which could change Tielemans’ role in the middle of the park.

At the moment there is no evidence he is regretting his move but King’s comments show how different things are at Villa now compared to the difficulties he faces at Old Trafford.
