Bruce believes Grealish should remain with Villa to continue developing
Steve Bruce believes that Aston Villa is the perfect place for Jack Grealish to continue to grow and develop, despite interest from other clubs seeming tempting.
Grealish has earned rave reviews since he return to the Villans side following a serious kidney injury, and now hopes to take Aston Villa into the Premier League by beating Fulham in the Championship play-off tomorrow.
While Bruce expects the 22-year old midfielder to have plenty of offers in the summer, he believes that Villa Park is the perfect place for him to continue to improve. Talking about Grealish’ future ahead of tomorrow’s game, as reported by the Express and Star, Bruce said;
For me another year would be the best thing for him whatever league we are in.
I practically tried to build the team around him. Unfortunately, he got injured.
Whether there are bids, I would not be surprised. If anyone has watched us since Christmas, he has been outstanding.
I think he just has to be careful. I hope he has got a trust in me, where, if he does have to move on, the timing has to be right for both parties.
Let’s hope we can be in the Premier League. I would rather have it we can give him everything he needs. Yes, everyone wants to play in the Premier League. But he is only 22, he still has a lot to offer.
I hope we can give him the platform in the years to come. He’s a mad Villa fan, his family are Villa through and through so let’s hope it can be positive for everybody.
Grealish has often been seen as the pin-up boy of Villa down the line, emerging as a top talent when Villa were last in the Premier League. Now seemingly comfortable operating as a key player for his side, Bruce feels his kidney splitting injury against Watford last July was a watershed moment that will lead to him realising his potential. Bruce continued;
It focused him on what he is.
